Nursery and Reception Transition

Hillingdon Primary School Nursery Transition

Beginning of July: Nursery open day – an opportunity for all parents and pupils starting in the nursery in September, to visit the nursery and meet the nursery staff.

September: Hillingdon Primary School staff visit children’s homes to meet children and parents prior to starting: We try to visit all new children and parents in their homes, so that we can get to know them better and find out information about their learning and development.

September: We operate a staggered start for Nursery Children, so that children have the chance to start in small groups. Further details about your child’s start date will be given to you at the home visits. All parents will be able to come into the nursery to ensure their child is settled in and also ask staff any questions.

Part-time pupils will attend the nursery for morning sessions (8.45am – 11.45am) or afternoon sessions (12.15pm – 3.15pm).

Full-time pupils will attend the nursery from 9am – 3pm. A half an hour lunchtime is included in this session.



October: Nursery Parents’ Curriculum Evening: An opportunity to find out how your child will be learning in Nursery at Hillingdon Primary School.

Further details will be sent out prior to each event.

Hillingdon Primary School Reception Transition

Tours of the school for parents new to Hillingdon Primary School can be arranged by contacting the school office: This is an opportunity to look round the school and ask any questions you may have about your child starting school.

Beginning of June: Hillingdon Primary School staff visit children’s nurseries to meet children prior to starting: We try to visit all new children in their nurseries so that we can get to know them better and find out information about their learning from their current teachers.

Beginning of July: Information sessions for all parents of Reception.  An opportunity to meet the team at Hillingdon Primary School and find out information about starting school. During these sessions, you will have a chance to meet your child’s class teacher and gather information including details of the school day and uniform requirements.

Unfortunately we are unable to provide crèche facilities, so parents are asked not to bring children to these sessions.

 

 

September: We operate a staggered start for Reception Children, so that children have the chance to start school in small groups. Further details about your child’s start date will be given to you at the information sessions.

In the first few weeks Reception children will attend school on a part-time basis in order for them to familiarise themselves with their classroom and routines.

  • Week 1- September: Pupils will do either a morning (9am until 11.45pm) or an afternoon (12.45pm until 3.15pm) session
  • Week 2 - September: Pupils will have lunch at school.  Morning pupils will attend 9am until 1pm and afternoon pupils 11.30am until 3.15pm
  • Week 3 - September: Pupils stay all day, 9am until 3.15pm

2nd /3rd Week in September: All parents will have a chance to meet with their child’s class teacher to talk about their child and find out how they are settling in.

October: Reception Parents’ Curriculum Evening: An opportunity to find out how your child will be learning in Reception at Hillingdon Primary School.
