Year 6 Curriculum

The National Curriculum is a framework used to ensure that teaching and learning is balanced and consistent in key stage 1 and key stage 2.

The National Curriculum sets out the subjects taught as well as the knowledge, skills and understanding required in each subject.  It also provides standards or attainment targets in each subject and these are used by teachers to help measure your child's progress and plan the next steps in their learning.  In accordance with the law, the school curriculum meets all the requirements of the National Curriculum, plus the requirements for Religious Education set out by the local authority.

For further information on the National Curriculum please refer to the Department For Education National Curriculum.

Curriculum Overviews are published for every year group at the beginning of each term to outline what is being taught to pupils during that term.  Below you will find copies of the Year 6 Curriculum Overviews for the current and previous 2 terms. Please visit our Subject Intent and Implementation pages for a more detailed breakdown of what will be taught in each subject in Year 6.

End of Key Stage 2 SATs: In the summer term, pupils in Year 6 take national curriculum assessments in English grammar, punctuation and spelling, English reading and mathematics.  Please see the presentation below, prepared by our Year 6 team, that provides further information to support parents, carers and pupils to prepare for the tests in May.
